In the winter of 2023, a new photographer's book was published.
The book is titled “eyes”.
Housed in a fine cloth-covered bookcase that looks as if it were taken from a bookshelf lined with old books are two photo books.
The photographs are of lovers whispering their love on a European street corner. The distance and delicate light and shadows make it seem as if the photographer had disappeared and pressed the shutter. The reader finds himself or herself standing in a foreign city.
The photograph in II is of a woman.
The photographer, H. J, falls in love with her, looks at her, and falls deeper in love with her. It is a moment of falling in love that everyone has experienced at least once.
What is it to gaze, to photograph, and to love?
The eyes of H.J, the love of lovers, and the love for a woman that the photographer has been capturing for 50 years.
“Eyes” is a form of love that is “gazing”.
This exhibition also includes works from H. J's new photo book “melody”.
The work is a complete change from the gaze in “eyes” and is overflowing with “love”.
